Michael Heindl, born in 1988 in Linz, lives and works in Vienna and Scharten.
“I am particularly concerned with the social behavior emerging as a response to the gradual failure of modern visions of progress. Be it uncompromising adherence to the status quo or the total loss of confidence in authorities—the present situation results in the development of most different and individual methods of crisis management. This state serves as a forceful stimulus for my projects. What I am particularly interested in with regard to this are the contradictions and absurdities inherent in these tendencies. The fundamental questions I go further into are how the individual’s options for action may look like and how your own work affects the world around you. Specifically, I try to work with the structures that define spaces in order to question traditional patterns and conventions and find new possibilities to intervene into these. All in all, I think that physical space has always something to do with surveying it, setting it up, modifying it, and, although in most cases only temporarily, appropriating it.”
