Born in 1991 in Austria, David Meran currently lives and works in Vienna. Since 2011 he studies at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and in 2016 at Geidai – Tokyo University of the Arts. Besides his solo presentations, the artist participated in various group exhibitions in Austria and Japan.
Formally, my work explores the tension between reality and illusion, flatness and three-dimensionality, as well as the conception of space. I use objects and materials with a strong connection to ongoing sociocultural issues and connect them with an artistic process. In my practice, I use different media that revolve around objects, installations and photography as certain thoughts and concepts need certain modes of representation. For me, the variety of media and materials is a metaphor for the issues of cultural hybridity that I try to address in my work.
