Mayumi Nakazaki, Artist in Short-term Residence 2014

Mayumi Nakazaki is a Japanese visual artist based in Amsterdam. She has a bachelor’s degree from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Her 16mm graduation film received the Rene Coelho Prize from the Netherlands Institute for Media Art in 1999.  The following year, she worked as a writer/director at the program De Achtbaan, Avro t.v. NL. During 2000-2001, she participated at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.  Her artist in residencies include Sanskriti Foundation in Delhi, India (2004) and Location One in New York (2005-2006), both of which were supported by Mondrian Foundation NL.  In 2007, she participated in The Berlinale Talent Campus.  She has been working in New York with the stipend from the Bunkacho award; the Japanese government overseas research study program for artists during 2008-2009.  Her short experimental films and video installations have exhibited and screened internationally in places such as; International Documentary Film Festival IDFA Amsterdam, Les Rencontres internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid, Jamaica Arts Center New York,  Kunstpavilion Zagreb, Location One New York, and The Stedelijk Modern Art Museum. One of her most recent works is distributed by EYE Netherlands film Institute. She developed a feature script, participated at the Binger film lab in Amsterdam during Oct. 2013-Jan. 2014, which was supported by The Netherlands Film Fund and Amsterdam Foundation for Arts.
