Val Smets is an interdisciplinary artist born in Luxembourg. She lives and works in Austria, Brussels, and Helsinki, where she recently completed her MFA in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of the Arts (KUVA) Finland.

Past residencies include Styria-artist-in-residence Scholarship (St.A.i.R.) in Graz, Austria, Utö residency, Aland Islands (Berlin residency, postponed to fall 2021 due to Covid-19).
